Best Program of the Year Award
Support Group Earns '09-'10 Best Program of the Year Award
Better Breathers Support Group, formed to help those dealing with breathing problems like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), was given the 2009-2010 best program of the year award by the Central Florida Chapter of the American Lung Association. It was selected for this award from the 16 active Better Breathers Clubs across Central Florida.
Winter Park Memorial Hospital’s Better Breathers was started in 1999 to promote lung health in the community by educating and supporting people affected by lung disease. Currently, more than 12 million people in the United States are diagnosed with COPD and many more may suffer from the disease without knowing it.
“This support group gives participants encouragement, medical information and fresh ideas that inspire hope.” said Paula Wade, RN and facilitator of the Better Breathers Support Group at Winter Park Memorial Hospital. “The program provides those struggling with lung disease a place to meet others coping with similar challenges. It helps them realize that they are not alone while fighting through this disease.”
Many people are getting the help they need to live a healthier, happier life with the help of Winter Park Memorial Hospital’s Better Breathers Support Group. The Better Breathers Support Group meets at 1:00 p.m. on the second Friday of each month, October through May, in the Winter Park Memorial Hospital Medical Library Auditorium. Each meeting features an educational speaker, including physicians and health professionals, covering topics such as lung disorders, treatment, research, nutrition, exercise, and relaxation techniques. Meetings are open to the community and free of charge. For information call 407-646-7545 or email Paula.Wade@flhosp.org.
