Critical Care

At Winter Park Memorial Hospital, our goal is to provide our patients with state-of-the-art medical treatment in a compassionate and caring environment. Our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ to all of our patients is the goal of every member of our staff, and nowhere is that commitment more evident than in our Critical Care Units.

Intensive Care Unit

Our ICU provides closely monitored care for patients requiring the highest level of medical attention. Nurses and physicians are highly trained medical professionals with years of experience in advanced medical and post-surgical care. The Unit is equipped with state-of-the-art cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring, and cares for a variety of patients and diagnoses from cardiac problems and respiratory illnesses to hematological, urological, gastrointestinal, general surgery and endocrine diseases.

Progressive Care Unit

PCU patients are either admitted directly from the Emergency Department, or transferred from the ICU. These patients require close observation and monitoring, and are cared for by a staff of highly skilled nurses, physicians and specialists. The patients on this Unit have a variety of medical conditions that range from cardiac problems to neurological, respiratory and endocrine disease. Every patient in the unit is on a cardiac monitor.

Surgical Progressive Care Unit

Post-surgical, Emergency Department, and ICU patients who require cardiac monitoring or close observation may be admitted to the SPCU. Here, staff is able to recognize and respond immediately to any complications that may arise as a result of illness or surgery. Additionally, this Unit provides post-surgical care for patients who have undergone abdominal, urological, vascular, ear, nose, throat and orthopaedic surgery.

Specialty Care Unit

Patients admitted to the SCU have a variety of complex medical conditions including, but not limited to, oncological diagnoses. The SCU at Winter Park Memorial Hospital is part of the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute, which treats over 3.400 newly diagnosed cancer patients each year - more than any other program in the state of Florida. All of the nurses in the SCU are certified in chemotherapy administration. Patients requiring cardiac medical telemetry are also cared for in the SCU.
